- Mark Kistler's Draw Squad - My first and by far most impactful drawing book and TV show. Commander Mark and his Secret Cities not only taught me perspective and all the other critical elements of drawing, they gave me a lifelong love for elaborate fantasy cityscapes. I had (still have!) the book, watched the show every afternoon, and he came to my elementary school when I was somewhere around fourth grade. And he's still teaching!
- The Art of Animal Drawing, by Hultgren - I spent hours poring over this one in the high school library. The anatomical studies and dynamic motion-capture sketches of various classes of animal took my animal drawing to a new level.
